SNOWDRIFT | Four women, one sailboat
Hi Val! Last year you went on a pretty thrilling adventure — you and three other girls set out on a sailboat into the Arctic in search of snow, and turned it into a film that just dropped. What can we expect from SNOWDRIFT?
Snowdrift is about a group of girls from the flatlands, Belgium and the Netherlands, who somehow made skiing a big part of their lives, all in our own way. None of us grew up in the mountains, but we all found our way there and kept choosing it.
We decided to go on an adventure together, combining ski touring and splitboarding in Northern Norway, using a sailing boat as our base. Every day we looked at the mountains around us and picked our lines together as a team.
It became a very shared experience, not just in skiing, but in making decisions, trusting each other, and figuring things out along the way.
What was the most unexpected thing or feeling that you faced during the trip?
The most unexpected moment for me came during our second tour of the day we did one day. The snow kept sticking to my skins, making every step feel really heavy and slow.
It was not about the conditions, it was more about how far I had to go within myself to keep moving. I had to really dig deep and find strength I did not know I had in that moment.
By the time I reached the top, I was completely drained and I actually cried. But then we dropped in, skiing down during sunset, and that feeling shifted completely. It made everything worth it.
